We (3 drinking partners) discussed (over drinks) the possibility of paddling the Caledonian Canal utilising the newly established Canoe Trail which goes from Corpach (Fort William) on West through 60 miles of Canals and open lochs (including Loch Ness) to end in Inverness on the East. West to East as this should take advantage of favourable westerly winds (although this turned out not to be the case).
As I am a very ex paddler (25 years ago) and one other was a complete novice we would have to beg and borrow all manner of kit.
As per usual instead of the recommended 5 days we would attempt it in 3!!!
